OK so whilst it IS totally free, we do ask that you commit to help at 4 of Three Ridings Working Tests in the next 24 months - that's just 2 days a year, not much to ask we think!

This Training Day is for you if you would like to help out and learn more about the sport at the same time. Maybe you're new to the sport or been around for a while but been a bit cautious about helping in case you don't know what's expected. 

It's for you to learn how we organise these events on the day. And yes let's face it, all the working test events for ALL clubs rely on the kindness of volunteers to make them happen so we want to invest some time to grow our volunteers and give you the knowledge to help as best as you can. Powered by a free lunch and the opportunity to do some dog training at the end of the day if you'd like to.

The Day Includes:

• Checking In – issue of running cards and numbers to competitors

• Pistols – loading, checking and how to use

• Dummies – The trainer will set up a variety of test scenarios’ and show how dummies are thrown/placed for each scenario with an explanation as to what the judges are testing in the different set ups and what they will be looking for. When and if, to fire a pistol.  Everyone will be given the opportunity to improve their dummy throwing skills with tips on how to get the best and most consistent throw. Some will become brilliant dummy throwers, others will never master it but placing dummies is equally as important as throwing them and to gain confidence that the dummies are in the right place the trainer will explain how dummies placed wrongly or inconsistently can affect a dogs performance and ultimate score.

• Scoring – collecting scores from the judges, compilation of master score sheets and checking scores with the judges, including checks put in place to ensure calculations are correct. Run-offs and how these are scored.

Attendees can bring their dogs to have a go at the test scenarios at the end of the day.

The day will include some light hearted competitions with prizes for winners

There are 10 places FREE OF CHARGE with lunch included.  In return you commit to attend and help at a minimum of 4 of Three Ridings Working Tests over a 24-month period.

Canine Eye Tests conducted by Vet Paul McPherson

We will be running Eye Testing Clinic all day on Saturday 2nd August 2025. 

We can take bookings for single dogs or multiple dogs and for any breed not just Labradors

Please note: Gonioscopy tests will not be available at this clinic.

(The Gonioscopy test is required every 3 years for certain breeds including the following gundogs:

Hungarian Vizsla; Flat Coated Retriever; Golden Retriever; Cocker Spaniel; American Cocker; English Springer; Welsh Springer; Spanish Water Dog).

Learn how judges apply the J Regs to improve your training and competitions. At the end of the day you can choose to take the J Regs test which is the first step to becoming a Judge.
